IRM Continuing Education Guidelines & Information
The Information Resources Manager (IRM) at each state agency or university must ensure that integrated information resources (IR) are acquired appropriately, implemented effectively, and comply with regulations and agency policies. Continuing professional education (CPE) is critical for accomplishing these responsibilities.
The Information Resources Management Act, 77th Legislature, Section 2054.076, states that DIR must establish mandatory guidelines for IRM continuing education. DIR developed these guidelines in accordance with this legislation, and with the assistance of the IRM Education Advisory Committee, IRM surveys, and IRM focus groups. Beginning September 1, 1999, all IRMs must comply with these guidelines. The following links provide additional information.

In accordance with Texas Administrative Code, Title 1, Part 10, Rule Section 211 B & C, the designation letter must contain "the name, title, authority, responsibilities, organizational resources, education and experience of the proposed information resources manager in the format prescribed by the department [DIR]".
To assure the designation letter contains all the required components, please download and use the template provided by DIR:
Important note: If the IRM position falls vacant, the organization's CEO automatically becomes the IRM until one is appointed.
