DIR Wide Area Network (WAN) Services
Providing Data Communications Across Texas
The Department of Information Resources (DIR) provides and manages a statewide MPLS communications network that customers can access through 18 regional Internet Service Gateways (ISGs). The services provided are principally IP-based data communications. Services that utilize the ISGs have become known as "WAN Services", to distinguish them from other similar, mostly legacy services. The majority of DIR's WAN Services customers are Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies. These include HHSC, DADS, DSHS, DARS, DFPS, and hospitals and clinics staffed by HHSC personnel. WAN Services are provided to approximately one thousand HHS customer locations.
