Statewide Data Center Assessment
Expenditure and Facilities Assessment, Validation and Analysis
Department of Information Resources
March 2005
The Legislative Budget Board, in its Staff Performance Report to the 79th Legislature dated January 18, 2005, directed the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) to recommend a plan to consolidate the management of state data center services. DIR was tasked with addressing these key issues:
- Identify relevant operational details of each independently managed data center.
- Identify the operational baseline costs of state agency data center services that are managed independent of the state data center system.
- Determine the magnitude of savings that will be realized through increased data center consolidation.
- Provide a full estimate of resources needed to implement the strategy and action plan including the cost of equipment and professional services.
DIR has issued the report titled “Expenditure and Facilities Assessment, Validation and Analysis,” and submitted the findings to the Legislature. DIR would like to recognize the considerable staff time and dedicated support from the 24 agencies involved in this report. Their input and advice was critical in delivering this report on time.
