Building a New Framework for the Enterprise

2003 State Strategic Plan for Information Resources Management

RETIRED NOVEMBER 2005– Replaced by Shared Success

Department of Information Resources
November 1, 2003

The State Strategic Plan for Information Resources Management (SSP) offers a vision for deploying state government IR assets to best serve the citizens of Texas. DIR produces the plan every two years under the guidance of the legislature and state executive leadership and in collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders.

In Building a New Framework for the Enterprise, DIR introduces a fundamental, new strategy for managing the state's information resources — enterprise architecture. An enterprise architecture is a methodology that homogenizes and simplifies the IR environment and aligns the use of IR with an organization's business needs. An overview of the statewide interagency initiative underway to develop an enterprise architecture for Texas government is presented in the plan.
