Connections to the Internet
Connections to the Internet are the 5th of five key components
of Internet Service that can be provided by DIR through TEX-AN
2000 contracts. DIR has procured several methods of connecting
to the Internet: If a customer's solution includes data transport
services provided by either AT&T or SWB, DIR has contracts
with these companies that can be used when price and availability
are to the advantage to the customer.
The normal DIR solution is to arrange for data transport
(through AT&T or SWB) back to the Network Operations Center
in Austin where DIR maintains very large, robust connections
to the Internet. These very large connections tie into the
regional, national and international Internet network. Thus,
eligible customers can consider DIR to be their ISP (or Internet
Service Provider).
DIR can provide these various services related to the Internet:
- Dial-Up connections for CapNet users
- Internet Service Provider - ISP
- Small Capacity Internet Connectivity like DS-0, ISDN,
BRI and PRIs
- Fractional T-1 and Full T-1 Internet Connectivity
- Very High Bandwidth Internet
Connectivity like DS-3, OC-3 and OC-12. and even OC-48s
